Mr. Joseph Sam Amoah Akumbuno has been a full-time staff of the University for Development Studies (UDS) since 2003. He was initially appointed in August 2003 as a Deputy Registrar. He became the Acting Registrar in April 2005. On 1st October 2005, he was appointed by the University Council upon the recommendation of a Search Committee as the Substantive Registrar
Mr. J. S. A. Akumbuno holds the Teacher’s Certificate ‘A’ awarded in 1972 after following a 4-year teacher training programme at the St. John Bosco’s Training College, Navrongo. He was upgraded to the Certificate ‘A’ Post Secondary Status in 1975 after satisfying the required criteria set out by the Ghana Education Service (GES). In the same year, he was confirmed as a professional teacher.
He rose through the Professional ranks of the Ghana Education Service (GES) and by 1990, he was a Principal Superintendent of Schools. Simultaneously with his professional duties as a certified teacher, he graduated from the University of Cape Coast (UCC), Ghana in 1986 with B. ED Degree (Honours) and Diploma in Arts (History) awarded concurrently in 1986. He was retained by the University of Cape Coast as a National Service Person from 1986 to 1988. He returned to the GES to teach at Zamse Secondary/Technical School, Bolgatanga as a Graduate teacher from 1988 – 1990.
In August 1990, he was seconded by the GES to the University of Cape Coast (UCC) as Assistant Registrar in the Registrar’s Department. He opted in 1994 to remain at the UCC as a University Administrator. In 1999, he obtained M. A. Degree (SICPD) from the University of Nottingham, UK.
From 1990 to 1999, he worked and handled various schedules at the University of Cape Coast as an Assistant Registrar in the Registrar’s Department. He was promoted to the position of Senior Assistant Registrar in October 1999. From 2000 – 2001, Mr. Akumbuno was seconded to the Cape Coast Polytechnic as the Acting Polytechnic Secretary. After a year’s successful service, he returned to his post in UCC in 2002. In August 2003, he moved to the UDS as a Deputy Registrar.
Mr. Akumbuno has had over nine (9) years of progressive pre-University teaching and course development experience. Additionally, he has gained extensive experience in University Management and Administration from senior positions that he has held since 1990 to date.
He is a member of the Ghana Association of University Administrators (GAUA) and has affiliation with the Association of University Administrators (AUA) (UK).
His main areas of interest include: Public Administration, Business Administration and General Contemporary/Topical issues of National and International Importance
