DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENT AND RESOURCE STUDIES (DERS)
Introduction
The Department seeks to emphasize on the spatial expression of human activities and their impact on society and the physical environment. Again, emphasis is placed on the environmental and development problems, the spatial dimensions of agriculture and industrial development and the development of arid land.
Mission
The Department is to develop in students a fundamental concern of the complexity of the natural environment and the holistic and community based approach in solving environmental and resource related problems. It also strives to develop analytical and methodological skills to enable students to analyze environmental and resource problems effectively and explain their findings for short and long term policy formulation and intervention measures.
Vision
The vision of this Department is to grow to become a Degree Awarding Faculty in the next ten (10) years, and to establish a nationally recognize meteorological station to collect data in order to monitor climatic changes that affect regional, national and international socio-economic development.
Programmes
The department contributes to the training of students for the Bachelor of Arts Integrated Development Studies and the MPhil Development Studies in the area of Environment and Resource Studies. In addition students in the department specialize in Environment and Resource Management for Bachelor of Arts.
