Staff of the Faculty of Agriculture


Undergraduate Programmes

The Faculty offered and still offers, a four-year general degree programme, with very little specialization, leading to BSc. (Agric. Technology). It is located at Nyankpala, about 18 km south-west of Tamale, the capital of Northern Region of Ghana.

Departments

The academic departments constituting the Faculty are:

  • Agricultural Mechanization and Irrigation Technology
  • Agronomy
  • Agricultural Economics and Extension
  • Animal Science
  • Horticulture
  • Renewable Natural Resources
  • Renewable Natural Resources

The Faculty also housed the Food and Nutrition Security Unit. The Unit undertook short term trainings, research extension. It depended on donor support and its internally generated revenue for its activities.

Faculty members engaged in teaching, research and extension activities. All the main activities emphasized problem-solving and participatory learning approaches.

Entry Requirements

SSSC/WASSC holders seeking admission into the B.Sc. (Agric. Tech.) degree programme must have passes/credits in:

  • Three core subjects, namely English Language, Mathematics and Science.
  • Any three elective subjects in Agriculture or Integrated Science Programmes with an aggregate score of 20 or better in the six subjects.

Diploma Holders
A Diploma Certificate from a University or equivalent institution. Applicants must pass a selection interview to be conducted by the University.

HND Holders
HND applicants into the University should posses a First Class or Second Class Upper Division with at least two (2) years working experience. The HND applicants would be admitted to year two (2).
The applicants would be expected to pass a selection interview to be conducted by the University.

The Faculty offers the following Post-Graduate Programmes

  • PhD & MSc in Post Harvest Technology
  • PhD, MPhil/MSc in Innovation Communication
  • MPhil. in Biotechnology
  • MSc in Soil & Water Conservation & Management
  • MSc in Meat Science & Technology

Entry requirements

  • Applicants should have a related good first degree in the relevant field or its acceptable equivalent from a recognized University.
  • Applicants will be short listed and invited for a section interview.
  • Applicants should be capable of meeting all financial obligations in connection with the course.
