The UDS Library complex provides information and bibliographic support for the four campuses (Nyankpala, Wa, Navrongo, Tamale) and the Graduate School.
The collection of books and other information materials facilitates teaching, learning, research and knowledge dissemination in the University. In addition, users gain wider knowledge of the world around them, as it provides informal reading materials on a wide range of subjects.
Alhaji Antwi has been the University Librarian from the inception of UDS Library in 1993 to date. He is a Fellow of the Ghana Library Association, member of Ghana Institute of Management and was once external examiner for the Department of Information Studies, University of Ghana, Legon and GIMPA.
He has on two occasions served as the Chairman, Committee of University Librarians and their Deputies. He was also Chairman, Standing Conference of African University Libraries, Western Area from 1999 – 2003 and a founding member and Vice President, West African Association of Library and Information Science Journal Editors.
His major research interest is Scholarly Publishing. He has facilitated numerous workshops on Scholarly Publishing for academic staff of Universities and Polytechnics in Ghana. He was for eight years Editor-in-Chief of the Ghana Library Journal, and continues to serve on Editorial Boards of several peer-reviewed journals.
He has authored many publications including twenty-seven refereed journal articles. He has the unparalleled privilege of working in five public universities in Ghana and also Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University in Nigeria, where he rose to the rank of Deputy University Librarian. He also provided a blueprint for the establishment of the libraries of the polytechnics at Ho, Wa and Sunyani respectively.
Alhaji Antwi has been listed in International Who is Who of Twentieth Century Achievement, 1999.
