On Friday, July 2, 2010, V.C continued with the meeting of some Ministers of State. At 9:15am, the V.C paid a courtesy call on the Minister of Education, in the person of Hon. Alex Tettey Enyo to first and foremost, thank the Minister and Ministry for their contributions to the upliftment of UDS and to invite him to visit the University. Among other issues raised, V.C humbly requested that, the GETFund allocation(s) to UDS be increased due the multicampus nature of the University as compared to the traditional universities. Another area was the tarring of 10km of each campus internal roads.
In conclusion, the V.C appealed to the Minister and the Ministry for support to bring the University to the level anticipated by all.
Responding, the Minister thanked the new Vice-Chancellor for the courtesy call and expressed the hope that the cordial relationship that existed between the Ministry and the University would continue to grow from strength to strength. He pledged that he would do everything possible to accord the V.C, his maximum cooperation for the betterment of UDS, for the reason that ‘UDS is their baby’.
In conclusion the Minister asked that the VC’s requests be put together as a ‘paper’ and submitted to his Ministry for necessary action.
The V.C also paid a separate courtesy call on the Deputy Minister for Education, in the person of Dr. J. S. Annan to introduce himself and to solicit his support for UDS.
The Deputy Minister expressed his appreciation for the courtesy call and pledged his support to the V.C to achieve his vision. Among some concerns he raised, was that most universities seem to be working independently of each other. He appealed to the universities through the Vice-Chancellor to work in unism.
He encouraged UDS to strategically place itself, for he could see that UDS had a bright future. In conclusion, he intimated that on his recent visit to Cuban he advocated for support for the UDS’ Medical School when he met the Cuban Medical brigade.
