ADMISSIONS OF CANDIDATES TO GRADUATE PROGRAMMES  2011/2012 ACADEMIC YEAR

 

Application forms for admission to graduate programmes in the Graduate School of the University for Development Studies (UDS) are now available online at www.uds.edu.gh for degree holders from recognized institutions.

The following graduate programmes are currently offered by the university:

 ENTRY REQUIREMENTS:

General entry requirements

All applicants to our full-time and sandwich graduate programmes are required to pass a selection interview to be conducted by the University.

Applicants targeting research related programmes(MSc/MPhil/PhD) should include a short research proposal.

The minimum requirements for admission are:

For MSc / MPhil programmes:

·         A Bachelor’s degree from any approved / recognized University or Institution with a minimum of Second Class (Lower division)

For PhD programmes:

·         An MPhil degree from any approved / recognized University or Institution

 

For PhD in Endogenous Development:

 

·         In addition to possessing an M.Phil or a research-based MSc Degree, a minimum of five years work experience is required.

 

 

C.    CAREER-ORIENTED MA SANDWICH PROGRAMMES

 

MA in Environmental Security and Livelihood Change (ELC):

Using a variety of teaching methods, this programme offers opportunities for students/participants to focus on and discuss natural resources and environmental management issues as they relate to access and control for improvement of livelihoods in the context of changes in climatic patterns. Global, national and local impinging factors are considered.

 

MA in Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) Management and Rural Development (NRD)

The goal of the programme is to equip students/participants with the required technical skills for effective management and administration of NGOs and related organizations for sustainable rural development. These professionals are expected to help NGOs in planning, designing, implementing and supervising programmes and projects in pursuance of the socio-economic development agenda of Ghana.

Duration of the Two Programmes

The programmes are offered in two long vacation periods, each lasting 8 weeks. A minimum of 30 credit hours of course work are required in addition to a dissertation which must be completed three months after the end of the course-work (the second long vacation period).

Entry Requirements

In order to be eligible for admission into any of the programmes, candidates must:

1.      Have a good Bachelor’s Degree (Second Class lower division or better)

2.      Pass a selection interview

 

Venue:

 

Students would have to take care of their accommodation, feeding and books. The programmes will be offered in Navrongo (ELC) and Tamale (NRD).
