The Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA) has donated a brand new Nissan patrol and office equipment to the Kazuhiko Takeuchi Centre for Sustainability and Resilience to boost the operations of the centre.
A former United Nations Under Secretary General and Director of Integrated Research Systems for Sustainability Science, University of Tokyo, Japan, Prof. Kazuhiko Takeuchi made the presentation with the assistance of Ms. Sayuri Shimotani, a Representative of JICA. This was at a brief Ceremony held at the Central Administration, UDS Tamale campus on Monday, March 20, 2017.
The Director of UDS International Prof. Gordana Kranjac- Berisalvjevic gave a background to the relationship between JICA and UDS, which according to her has produced very tangible outcomes including the piloting of a project in Ghana on sustainability and building resilience to climate change which was undertaken by the Centre and some research partners.
For his part, Prof. Seidu Al-Hassan, Pro-Vice Chancellor of UDS was extremely grateful to Prof. Takeuchi and the JICA Team for their kind gesture. He noted that climate change which was the focus of the project was a very important developmental issue and commended the research Team for impacting positively on the lives of northern communities where the piloting took place by empowering and equipping them with skills to fight natural disasters. Prof Alhassan assured the Team that the resources would be put to efficient use with the view to impacting positively on teaching and research.
The Ceremony was witnessed by the Registrar of UDS, Dr. A.B.T Zakariah, the Director of Finance Alhaji Mohammed Hardi Shaibu, the Director of Internal Audit Mr. John Azure and the Director of Works and Physical Development, Ing. Samuel Abiko.
Also present were the Director of the Kazuhiko Takeuchi Centre for Sustainability and Resilience, Dr. Richard Yeboah, and his deputy, Dr. Gofred Seidu, the Director of the Third Trimester Field Practical Programme, Dr. Francis Obeng, the Head of University Relations Ms. Sauda Belko-Sulemanah and Mr. Rashid Yakubu, Assistant Registrar, Office of the Vice-Chancellor.
