Background

Isaac Kwahene Addai (PhD) is an Associate Professor in Plant Breeding and Head of Crop Science Department. He studied at the University for Development Studies, Tamale, the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology, Kumasi and the University of Sussex, UK. He has served as Faculty Quality Assurance Officer, member of the Planning Committee for organizing Harmattan School and Annual Interdisciplinary Conferences for the University for Development Studies. He has more than 20 years professional experience with the University for Development Studies, and has provided instruction in Advanced Plant Breeding, Crop Physiology, Experimental Design and Analysis, and Principles of Plant Breeding at the undergraduate level. At the postgraduate level, he teaches Environmental Plant Physiology, Plant Breeding and Genetics, and Research Design and Statistics. He undertakes research in the areas of experimental mutagenesis for increased crop yield, application of NPK fertilizer formulations to cereals to determine their effects on growth and yield, influence of planting dates and/or nutrition management regimes on growth and yield of rain-fed onion and sweetpotato (ipomoea batatas (l.) lam.) breeding for improved agronomic traits in northern Ghana. He also researches into tolerance of soybean (Glycine max L.) and groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) germplasm to abiotic stresses. He has been involved in collaborative researches with MoFA and MADE. He was a member of the team that drafted the Seed, fertilizer, plant protection and pesticide regulations under the Plants and Fertilizer act 2010 (Act 803), member of the committee that developed strategies to address the yield gap between potential and actual yields of maize and rice in Ghana, and a member of the team that screened and selected the 2021 National Best Farmers in Ghana.
