Background

Dr. Timothy Khan Aikins is a Senior Lecturer and Head of the Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Management. He is a member of the British Ornithological Union (BOU), African Bird Club (ABC), Ghana Wildlife Society, and Ghana Institute of Foresters (GIF). Dr. Aikins has over 13 years of professional experience with the University for Development Studies (UDS). Dr. Aikins obtained a first degree in Agriculture Technology (Renewable Natural Resources Option) from UDS, Master of Philosophy in Zoology (Biodiversity Studies Specialization) from University of Ghana and a Doctor of Philosophy in Conservation Biology from the FitzPatrick Institute of African Ornithology, University of Cape Town, South Africa. Presently, he undertakes teaching, research and community/consultancy services in the areas of avian ecology, soil-plant-animal interactions, nutrient ecology and biodiversity conservation. Dr. Aikins teaches several courses including Soil Science for Conservation Biologist, Wildlife Systematics, Animal Ecophysiology, Biodiversity Inventory and Techniques, Ornithology, Nature Photography, Animal and Zoo Management, and Taxidermy and Museum Management. He has research collaborations with researchers from the Wildlife Division, University of Ghana, FitzPatrick Institute of African Ornithology, and University of Cape Town, South Africa. He is a recipient of fellowships and research grants from the Carnegie Cooperation (University of Ghana), NRF-South Africa, Dorothy Cameron Fellowship (University of Cape Town), Suzuki-South Africa, Tswalu Foundation (South Africa), Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Resources and Idea Wild. Dr. Aikins has over 25 publications and has presented in several conferences (see links below). He also serves as a reviewer for several ecology journals. He is proficient in ecological data analysis using R programming.
