July 2, 2010, the Vice-Chancellor paid another courtesy call on the Minister for Roads and Highways; Hon. Joe Gidisu in the latter’s office, in Accra. The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied by Assistant Registrar of the Accra Office, Mr. Michael Ansa and the Assistant Registrar, University Relations, Mr. Samuel A. Awugah.
In some brief remarks, Mr. Michael Ansa, introduced the occasion and formally introduced the new V.C to the Minister.
On the part of the V.C, he stated that he was primarily there to thank the Minister for all the support he accorded him as a person in diverse ways and to solicit this same support in his new position. In addition, V.C raised some issues militating against UDS that needed immediate attention. Paramount among such was the state of our internal roads. He requested that if at least 10km of each of the campuses could be tarred, it would enhance the beauty of the University and most of our equipment; especially the ICT gadgets would last longer.
Responding to the V.C’s remarks, the Minister first and foremost welcomed the new Vice-Chancellor to his office and expressed the hope that the healthy relationship that had existed for some time now, would surely not ceased. He intimated that this was the time that he (V.C) needed most support to succeed.
Turning onto the road network, the Minister briefly recalled his knowledge of the north, based on which he had a fairly good idea of the nature of the road network. However, he hinted that due to budgetary constraints, the Ministry would not be able to undertake all the projects concurrently but pledged, ‘they would do their best’. He went on to suggest to V.C to see the three Regional Directors of feeder Roads in the Northern Sector and continue the discussions with them.
In his conclusion, he reiterated his support for the V.C and wished him the best in the new appointment.
