GUSSS Organizes Seminar For Senior Members of UDS

The University for Development Studies branch of the Ghana Universities Staff Superannuation Scheme (GUSSS), has organized a workshop to sensitize senior Members of the UDS about the unification of GUSSS across all public universities in the country.

The seminar, which came off on Thursday, May 12, 2022 at the Andani Andan Conference Hall, was attended by Senior Members from all the university’s campuses, including the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Gabriel Ayum Teye, the Director of Finance, Dr Mohammed Hardy Shaibu, and The Principal of the Nyankpala campus, Prof George Nyarko as well as some members of the GUSSS Board, Dr. Eliasu, UTAG representative and Dr. Iddrisu Tanko, GAUA representative.

Before the main presentation, the Director of Finance, Dr. Mohammed Hardy Shaibu, acting as chairman on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, spoke about the purpose of the seminar and commended the participants for their dedication, commitment to duty, and contributions towards the growth of the University for Development Studies.

“The purpose of today’s gathering is to shed some light on status of GUSS. It is also to help us to better understand the expectations of life after our journey of work in UDS, and help condition our minds to embrace this beautiful new stage of our lives,” he said.

Onboard to educate Senior Members on the status of the Ghana Universities Staff Superannuation Scheme (GUSSS), was the leader of team overseeing the GUSSS unification process at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Technology (KNUST), Mr. Frederick Essien. He indicated that so far, the GUSS unification process has been smooth. He urged as members senior members of the UDS to join the scheme to help it to grow in numbers. He spent some time to take participants through the calculation of GUSSS benefits.

Participants expressed gratitude to Management of the University and the GUSSS secretariat for the seminar. They, however, entreated the GUSS secretariat to organize such seminars for right after the University employs individuals or at least five years before the retirement of the beneficiary.
  
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Gabriel Ayum Teye thanked the participants for their cooperation for making the seminar a successful one. He encouraged especially, newly recruited staff of the university to enroll onto the scheme, adding that it presents them with a best retirement package in the country. Prof Teye said the unification of GUSSS will make it easy for members to continue to grow their contributions.  He indicated that massive investments have been made already including student hostels across all the public universities.
